A Life Transformed: Julie’s Story
written by Ralph Brewer, Executive Director and former houseparent
Julie’s childhood was marked by loss and struggle. When she was very young, her mother passed away, leaving a void that no child should have to experience. Grief turned into anger and rebellion, and by the time she was 10 years old, she was considered unmanageable.
That’s when she came to the children’s home.
At first, she resisted the structure, the rules, and the care being offered to her. She had learned not to trust, not to hope. But little by little, through love, discipline, and unwavering support, Julie began to heal. She found security. She found guidance. And eventually, she found her faith.
As she grew, her heart softened. She became a Christian, graduated from high school, and built a life she once thought was impossible. She married a Christian man, and together, they made a decision that would change countless lives—they became foster parents.
Julie once said that she chose this path because of the direction and help she received at Potter. She knew firsthand what it felt like to be lost, and she wanted to be the person who gave another child hope.
From a child in need to a mother for many, Julie’s story is a testament to how love and faith can rewrite the future.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the transformations that happen when love and structure meet a child in need. We lift up children like Julie, who are grieving, hurting, and struggling to find their way. Lord, we pray for new houseparents—those who are willing to stand in the gap, to offer stability, guidance, and hope. May more homes be filled with caregivers who show Your love in action. We pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
